Fusing elements of progressive, tribal, goa, electro, breakbeats and techno, on top of driving, funky drums, Cannabinoid is an all-robot funk band, fronted by a circuit-bent NES console. The breakbeat recording project of Vancouver producer/dj Laurent Boucher, Cannabinoid pushes boundaries with regards to genre and style, while retaining a characteristic sound of heavy drums, funky percussion, grinding bass and 8-bit acid.
Following a solid local dj career, Cannabinoid has been writing electronic music since 2008, started doing live sets in the summer of 2009, and has been elevating dance floors ever since with a fresh and unique sound and high energy performance. The most prestigious local festivals where Cannabinoid has performed include Diversity Festival (2011), Earthdance Vancouver (2009 & 2011), Entheos Gathering (2010, 2011, 2012), 420 Vancouver (2012), Cannabis Day Vancouver (2012) and Intention 11 (2010).
Prior to his involvement with 96kHz Productions, Cannabinoid has released over a dozen tracks on three labels: tech-funk industry leaders VIM Breaks Records (Greece); electro tech specialists Red Robot Records (UK); and the hardcore breaks imprint Held 2 Ransom (UK). Cannabinoid’s entire library of recordings can be listened to for free at Soundcloud. Cannabinoid singles and EPs can be purchased at Beatport, Juno, iTunes and all fine online music retailers.
